Many of you may be busy setting up your business page on GooglePlus, as this feature became available today. Here’s three helpful things to note:
1. How to find your Pages:
Under your G+ profile picture (top left) you’ll find the drop down window leading to the pages you manage. See the example below. Simply click on the Page name to begin to use G+ as that Page.

2. Staying out of trouble
When you use the platform as a Page (or brand), G+ reminds you – which can be useful for keeping you out of trouble! See the image below for a sample (“You are now using Google+ as this page …”)

3. Your vanity URL
When you use G+ as a newly-created page, see the ‘Get started’ text below your name. It leads to a very useful page which also contains your G+ website link. You can use that G+ link to obtain a vanity URL with Gplus.to That gives you a slick, neat way to share your G+ page name (and applies to personal profiles too).
What handy tips can you share?
My Tip: Familiarise yourself (and your team) with “Hangouts with extras.”
Google+ Hangout is the single most important feature of Google+ right now. The ‘with extras’ option is where we’re seeing it come into its own, especially with screen sharing and Google doc integration.
Through Hangouts, Google+ has the potential to be a collaboration hub – something that Facebook Groups has tried to do, but hasn’t implemented well.
Furthermore, now that Goolgle Apps users can also use Goolge+, if Google continues to integrate their services into Google+, it has the potential to be a viable corporate communications platform too.
If Google focus themselves at the corporate/enterprise/business level (especially as talk about cloud computing grows), they have the ability to play in a completely different field to Facebook and Twitter…
…I’m typing as I think, and there might just be something in that.
Brilliant, thanks Ben. Those services make it a very exciting platform indeed. More than another social network.
Thanks Prakkles!
Given it a shot – no idea what to put on there yet…

ohh… and my tip for those who haven’t set up their Google+ page yet:
* set up a google acct for the company if you don’t already have one and then create the google page using that account
At the moment there is no way to add another admin or transfer to another administrator. Hundreds of us in our enthusiasm have set up pages not realising this straight away.. hmmm, now was I resigning in a week or two??? Google have had advised that they are working on this but I wonder how long that we will be – hopefully not too long 🙂
Good one Lynton. If Google takes time to roll out that feature, it could be painful …
I think that’s my problem – I set up a business page as an adjunct to my personal one. Sometimes I’d like to G+ using my biz identity, but the G+ widget always seems to default to my personal ID, even when I am logged into Google as my biz page 😦
Helpful – thanks! I’ve just added Clear Space :). http://gplus.to/ClearSpaceOrganising
Michelle, you need to at a G+ widget so we can share this post on G+ (for those that didn’t come to this post via there, anyway!)
Thanks Rebecca! And yes, I do need to add the widget.
When I originally commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when
new comments are added- checkbox and from now on whenever a comment is added I
recieve four emails with the exact same comment. Perhaps there is a way you can remove me from that service?
Thanks!
